Contributions should be submitted as a Word-file by e-mail to the Editor-in-Chief. Acceptance for publication will be decided by the editors following review by at least two referees. Authors are invited to suggest the names of up to three suitable reviewers for their manuscript, although the Editor reserves the right to use alternative referees. Correct formatting of the manuscript is critical for fast, efficient and flawless publication.
Types of manuscripts
Alytes publishes original papers in English, French, or Spanish, in any discipline dealing with amphibians. Besides Research Articles reporting results of original research, consideration is given to publication of Scientific Notes, Review Articles, Perspectives, Book Reviews and Letters to Editor. The journal also encourages the submission of original high quality hand illustrations (such as colour or black and white), showing beautiful or rare species, interesting behaviours, etc.

Format of the manuscript
The manuscript should be typewritten double-spaced. All pages should be numbered (including tables and figures) and have continuous line numbers. Any manuscript should start with a title page, including all relevant general information about the paper: exact title, authorship, address(es) of author(s), address for correspondence regarding this manuscript, number of pages, of plates and of figures.
On the second page, the title should be immediately followed by the general structure: English abstract, introduction, material and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, French or Spanish abstract, acknowledgements, literature cited, appendix. Abstract is mandatory only for Research and Review articles. Alytes operates double-blind peer review, which requires authors to avoid their names apart from the title page.
Figures and tables should be mentioned in the text as “fig. 1” or “tab. 1”. Colour images must be supplied as high-resolution files to a minimum of 300 dpi. The captions to figures and tables are assembled at the end of the text file. References in the text are to be presented as follows:
(Duellman & Trueb, 1994; Blaustein et al., 2001; Wyman, 2003).
References in the Literature Cited section should be presented as follows:
Blaustein, A.R., Belden, L.K., Olson, D.H., Green, D.M., Root, T.L., Kiesecker, J.M. (2001). Amphibian breeding and climate change. Conservation Biology, 15: 1804-1809.

Page charges and fees
Alytes does not charge the authors for publication in open access. Publication of colour figures in the on-line version of the journal is at no cost to the author. However, printing colour figures is charged. Reprints may be purchased, with a minimum number of 25.
